Empowering Girls!
Yes, it’s that time of year again. Back to school season has arrived! That means the countdown has ended (or in some parts, just started) and our Netflix viewing will be slowing down a little bit. Well, the kids will, mine will probably remain the same. On August 7th, Netflix released an original series, Project MC2. Project MC2 features four spies who just so happen to be the coolest girls. They use their science and math problem solving skills to save the world!
We’ve watched it and thought it was a great show that allows girls to be seen as the hero #SmartGirl! Gianna has always wanted to be a spy and had purchased just about all of the “Spy Gear” that you see in stores so this show really hit home with us. It was a great show to watch with my tween. This past weekend we received a top secret package and it included some great kid-friendly experiments. Gianna opened the box and couldn’t wait to rip into it.
First we tried making a green penny. We placed a paper towel into the round container and covered it in vinegar. We let it sit for a couple hours while we worked on our other projects.
Then we dove into making a glitter tornado. My lab partner, Gianna was prepared with her safety goggles on and we began to start our experiment. We had a mini explosion with some food coloring, but we all survived! Thank goodness! It was a successful glitter tornado!
After creating a glitter tornado we moved on to the disappearing straw experiment. We filled the jar with cooking oil and placed the straw on the side of the jar. All we did was turn the jar and all of a sudden the straw was gone! That one was a “cool” one. We enjoyed it a lot. We ended up adding more things to our jar of oil and had fun with it.
We had another experiment but we haven’t done that one yet. Gianna was more impressed with the Project MC2 doll. Gianna {who normally does not play with any dolls} really wanted to cut her hair to make her look more like her so of course, I let her. She was so excited to give her a hair cut! She sat there and snipped at her hair for about 15 minutes until it was “perfect”. I was a little excited to see her playing with a doll, any doll for that matter! My oldest daughter wanted to keep the lava lamp so it worked out great!

Another great original is Dinotrux that premiered August 14th. This one is a good one too because it mixes prehistoric dinosaurs with construction vehicles! What’s not to love, right?
Just because the kids are going back to school, it doesn’t mean you still can’t be a little adventurous. Be sure to check out some of the uber cool shows on Netflix!
