Best Plugin For Moving Blog Categories

Bulk Move It!

Favorite Time Saving Plugin

As a part of my quest to clean up and organize my blog, the first thing I wanted to work on was my categories.  I had three pages worth of categories.  That breaks down to about 35 categories!  There is no reason to have that many categories, none, what so ever.  First I had to come up with a few categories that best described what content was going in it.  Once I was set on my category names it was time to make adjustments.

When I started to dig into what I had to do, I quickly realized that it was extremely time consuming!  You had to go through repetitive actions to get one category post moved and once it was moved, then you had to go to the next post and do the same thing.  Problem was, I had 30 posts in some categories, 53 in others, and 8 in another.  Trying to move everything post by post was way too time consuming and rather frustrating to me seeing I have many other tasks on my list of things to do!

I jumped on Periscope and sent out an S.O.S. to who ever was watching to see if they had any other ideas that perhaps I was missing.  We all said there should be a plugin that made this particular process easier.  If I had the knowledge on how to make a plugin, I would have done one myself.  I searched the WP plugin area and couldn’t find anything using my search terms, so I set out to search on the next best platform…Google!  Google knows everything!!!!!!

Low and behold I found it!  I found what I believe is the worlds greatest plugin and it takes care of organizing and moving my categories!  You need to go to your dashboard, under plugins, select add new and search for “Bulk Move”.  You should see something like the below photo.

Once you install it, you will need to activate it.  Go ahead and do that.  Now you want to manage it so if you go to Tools, you should see Bulk Move as an option.  Select that and you’ll find it looks like this….

You will want to select the Bulk Move by Category {for this particular situation of cleaning up blog categories}.  On the left drop down you are able to select which category you want to move.   The second drop down is where you want to move all those posts.  Find the corrected or updated category and select that one.  Then you’ll need to decide on whether or not you want Bulk Move to remove any other categories tied into that post or not.  I selected to remove them.    Click on Bulk Move and as soon as your category has been moved, it will reset the category on the left to zero.  It’s pretty self explanatory so I’m sure you won’t have too many issues with it.  If you want to move by tag, or category by tag, you can do that too.  I haven’t explored either of those options yet but they are there should you choose to use them.

By using this plugin, it had saved me so much time, I can’t even begin to tell you.  I was done with all my category transfers within a matter of about 15 minutes as opposed to doing each post, post by post that probably would have taken me a week to get through!  I am so excited to have found this plugin that I hope by you having it, it saves you a lot of time!  Happy moving! 🙂
