Cocoa Beach, Sunology and the Fam!

After a long drive from Kissimmee to Cocoa Beach we were ready to take to the waves. Well, not really, but it sounded good. It was hotter than Hell while we were in Florida {yes, the end of July was HELLish temperature wise} but we thought with the heat, the ocean water would feel good. And it did for the most part, until it got in your mouth and you suddenly had sand in places sand should never be.

We rented a huge umbrella because I was DYING and needed one desperately! I didn’t care how much the rental fee was, we were getting a dang umbrella! Before we took off running and jumped into the ocean, and by running, I mean, running to get off the hotter than Hell sand, we had to lather up with sun screen! For the kids, I opted for the Natural Sunscreen by Sunology. It was SPF 50 and water resistant up to 80 minutes. While you are out in that heat, in the water and under the sun, you don’t really realize just how much damage you could be doing to your skin…until it’s too late and you look like a piece of a hot tamale candy.

I was very impressed with the Sunology product because it wasn’t super greasy like most lotions or creams are and it is made with natural oils that help to improve skin elasticity and helps prevent sunburn. It contains 10.0% Zinc Oxide and 7.5% Titanium Dioxide and is made with vitamins A, C & E, Antioxidants, and Omega 6 and Omega 9 oils. We did apply a couple times, “just to be sure”, it was working but none of the kids left with sunburn!!!! I missed a spot apparently on my one shoulder and it hurt for a couple days! I was so glad that the kids didn’t have to deal with that uncomfortable feeling the remainder of our trip! I’d highly suggest picking up Sunology sunscreen if you plan on being out in the sun…no matter where you are!

So while we were on the beach, we looked for sea shells of course and I brought with us three small mason jars so they can fill them with sand, sea shells and ocean water. Each kid now has their own little memory jar filled with the pieces of the Atlantic Ocean! It was the best thing I have ever done when visiting a beach! I plan on bring those glass mason jars where ever I go…you never know when you can bring something back…like desert rock or moon sand! 😉

Then, while in the ocean, poor Alyssa lost her favorite sunglasses from H&M and she got stabbed in the hand by this….talk about painful!

The kids played in the sand, buried stuff in it, found little sand crabs, played frisbee, watched a military helicopter fly over us, and me, well, I just relaxed, watched and took photos!

All in all we had a pretty fun day at the beach. Was I happy to be back in the car in the air conditioning? Yes. Will I retire to Florida when I get older? Not a chance in HELL!!!

Are you a salty beach lover? What’s a favorite beach you’ve visited?
