Family Is What You Make It #Streamteam

    #StreamTeam

As you must know by now, I am a Netflix #Streamteam member which basically means that once a month Netflix provides us with a topic idea that relates to the shows available on Netflix.  This months topic is Family.  Family is what you make it.  So with this post, I am going to share with you bits and pieces of what my family means to me.

There have been plenty of situations in my life where I probably could have curled up and withered away.  If it weren’t for some key people in my life at those time, that is exactly what would of happened.  I am so fortunate to have been blessed with an amazing support system both with my immediate family and friends who have become family.

The first person who pops in my mind is my Mom.  She has been my rock and has been there for me more times than I can count on both hands and feet.  She is there to motivate, inspire and help in any way she can.  She is one person I can rely on during any moment in my life.   She is always there to support me even when it isn’t necessarily the best thing for me to do, she is always there.  Like any mother/daughter relationship, there are tough times and often times those are just because of a difference of opinion, but we are always a phone call or text away.  That brings me to my daughter.  She is also my rock.  She is there to shine a bright light of positivity on me.  She has been through some tough times in her short life so far and she is wiser beyond her years.  She is always my voice of reason and helps me to see past what ever problem I’m experiencing.  If it weren’t for these two, my life wouldn’t be the same.  I have referenced my daughter’s relationship as a modern day Rory and Lorelai Gilmore and that is exactly what we are.  We have such a close relationship even though there are times when I can wring her neck for being such a moody teen-ager, but we always come back together, much like my mom and myself.  When I found Gilmore Girls on Netflix, I couldn’t wait to watch it with my daughter and that was our thing…sitting there watching binge watching the Gilmore Girls.  It’s the perfect circle and one that I would never trade for a million years here on Earth.  Yes, they are both that special to me!

Besties…who’s yours?  You know, they are the ones that you can call at any time, day or night and they will be there for you.  You can go months without talking to them, but when you do talk, it’s like no time has passed at all.  I have a couple of friends who are just that.  Life takes us on a crazy journey once we become parents that sometimes our kids lives take over ours.  Not on purpose, but with sports, school activities, their friends, and the crazy day to day life, we just don’t have the opportunity to just drop everything and be with our own friends, even though that’s what we’d like to do!  Becoming best friends can come naturally between two people or it can sneak up on you when you least expect it.  Grace and Frankie is a new show on Netflix that stars Lily Tomlin (Frankie), Jane Fonda (Grace), Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston.  Grace and Frankie become best friends {in my eyes} after their families come together in a very unexpected way.  The two women share their lives with each other and they suddenly become a tremendous support for each other.  It will leave you laughing…omg, Frankie’s nature-loving ways to Grace’s, well, not so nature-loving self prove that opposites attract in only the best and funniest of ways.

There are more people I can name that have been there for me in countless ways, my husband, my two other kids, my best friends and neighbors.  They are my family and extended family.  They have touched my life in so many ways.  They have been there for emotional and financial support, and they are people I will never ever forget and for whom I am so extremely grateful for.

For more family related movies, check out Guess How Much I Love You, Spy Kids (my kids personal favorite of all time), The Fosters, and Richie Rich, all on Netflix.

So tell me, what makes your own family special?
