Krusteaz new buttermilk protein pancakes are not only a healthy and filling food but one that doesn’t have to be made for just breakfast alone! March 5th is Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, however, my family loves pancakes and we can eat them every day, any time, day or night! So when I do make pancakes you better believe I want to make them as healthy as I possibly can which is why I couldn’t wait to try these!
*I did receive product from Krusteaz in order to test and share my thoughts with you.
Initial Thoughts –
I must admit, in years past I was not one to check to see what products contained as long as it taste good and my kids would actually eat it. I’ve learned and have come a long way in my views and interpretations with food. I actually taught myself to love oatmeal and I used to hate it, despise it, even loathe it! It made me gag! But after trial and error, now I can eat it only with frozen strawberries and I have to eat each bite with a fraction of a frozen strawberry. Now that I am older and wiser, I look for things like protein, fiber, carbs, calories, and all the different vitamins I’m consuming.
The Facts –
With the new Krusteaz Buttermilk Protein Pancake & Flapjack Mix, it is packed with 15 grams of protein per serving. When I was looking at the box, you have the option to add addition grams of protein by adding milk and/or eggs when mixing. You can make up to 20 grams of protein per serving! Crazy, huh? The mix also includes 4 grams of fiber, is made from 100% whole grain flour, and contains no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.
With all of that, it got me really curious to see how it actually tastes. What would the texture be like? Would my kids like it? Will I need to mask it to make them taste it? And, more importantly, is it easy to make?
My Results –
I’ll break it down for you in a few words: easiest, most satisfying, and smooth pancakes I’ve made to date!
It was the easiest “healthy” pancakes to make. All it took was mix and water. Simple enough that the kids could make it without destroying my kitchen. I just made the 15 grams of protein pancakes because I didn’t really know what to expect. A+ for ease and simplicity!
I was very surprised at the flavor thinking it would be all flat and cardboard tasting – not that I eat cardboard – but I thought it would lack flavor. I was wrong. It was deliciously light & fluffy! But the real test would be having it pass the kids taste test. I never mentioned what it was, just made them and let them at it. The only thing they commented on was the color. It was a bit darker but that is because it was made using 100% whole grain flour so I just explained that to them and they were ok with it. They ate them, all. A+ for taste and flavor!
My Dessert Pancake –
I made the Krusteaz Buttermilk Protein pancakes twice, once for the strict knowledge of what it was like in its natural state with nothing extra added to it. I just topped it with a dab of butter and a drizzling of maple syrup. The second time I made it, I made what I call my dessert pancake. I made a
