I have always wanted to take a class in cake decorating so when a neighbor of mine said she signed herself up for the class, I jumped in on it too. We are taking it at Michaels and it is a Wilton cake decorating class. The instructor told me that once I learned how to make these cakes, I will never want to buy another store made cake again! So when I heard that, I was all pumped up!
We had to make our own buttercream frosting and cake to bring to class. Of course I was not prepared and forgot the cups and toothpicks. Luckily there were nice classmates who learned how to share 20-30 years ago.
Frosting was pretty good I must say. I was happy with how it turned out. I of course was happier not knowing what was in it and how it was made, but being the sweet toothed person that I am, I can learn to live with this knowledge. I will post a separate recipe for that next so you can see for yourself how to make it. *Very easy to do*
Frosting my cake took a moment to get used to and I had to stand up to do it. Decorating it took a bit longer to get used to, but I think I did a good job seeing it was my first attempt at a more professional look. We could have used different colors for the flowers but I was lazy and went with all one color. My neighbors did great as well. It was a fun, stress free night and one that was much needed after my weekend!
Here is my first decorated cake….
