For the most part when it comes time for the kids to go back to school we run out to gather up all the supplies on their “supply list” and other school essentials like a backpack, lunch box and kleenex. The thing is, not all families can afford the page long list of school supplies that each child is required to bring with on the first day of school. Yes, I have tried to get away with not sending in kleenex and I actually had a teacher call my son out in class to tell him he needs to bring it in. This came during a time that my husband was laid off and it was very hard at the time to even think of an extra box of kleenex when you wanted to make sure your mortgage is paid for. I imagine that feeling when I think of all the thousands upon thousands of kiddos parents who cannot stretch their income to even cover the cost of a pencil. Yes, me trying to buy a kleenex box in comparison sounds ridiculous but the feeling that you cannot afford something that your child needs, is the same.
This year, kids are receiving brightly colored and specially designed sackpacks that come with a zippered pouch that contains a pen, pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, six-inch ruler and four crayons. What is nice too is that none of the sackpacks have any Office Depot or Office Depot Foundation logos on them so kids won’t feel out of place, embarrassed, or less than, among their friends or peers.
It’s an awesome foundation and if you can, please take a peek at their website here www.officedepotfoundation.org and follow them on Facebook and/or Twitter.
And because the folks at the Office Depot Foundation are so cool, they are giving away one Sackpack to one lucky reader. All you have to do is follow the Rafflecopter instructions to enter & good luck to you!
I’ve learned that they have donated over 3 million backpacks to children that need them!
I had no idea Home Depot had given more than 3 million backpacks to children.
