Summer Sunset
The one thing I love about being in the suburbs of Chicago is that I am far enough from the hectic craziness of the city and my nights are filled with stars. Another great thing about living out here is that you can capture the most vibrant, most beautiful sunsets. Last night was a crazy night for clouds. We had all different kinds of visions from clear, sunny skies to the darkest of rain clouds to this beautiful array of color. This sunset shows flaming colors of the night but at one point our sky was purple! Yes, the sounds of Prince’s Purple Rain came flooding to my mind.
There is something so magical about looking at the sky. It gets me thinking of what other people are seeing. Do they see the same colors, same types of clouds, and do they get the same feeling of amazement when they truly look past it being just a “sky”. Do they see the big picture? Well, do you? The sunset to me is a sign of, obviously the day has come to an end. But it also reminds me to be grateful for the day I just had. I spent it with my family, hopefully, laughing. It reminds me that no matter what, we need to live in the moment as the moment will eventually come to an end. We have to cherish those moments and the moment of just “being”. Being in the here and now.
Seeing a sunrise {although I must admit, I am NOT a morning person so me seeing the sunrise is almost next to impossible} reminds us that the day is brand new and we have another chance at life. To make our lives better than the day that preceded it. It reminds me to be grateful for the new day and all that it has in store for me. It reminds me that no matter what cloud is in the sky, I’m breathing and I need to take advantage of that.
So you see, simply looking up has far more meaning to me than just seeing the sky. I capture each moment and cherish it’s beauty as I may, or may not be seeing it again. Next time you look up to the sky, really take a moment to let all it’s natural beauty soak in. Take a deep breath and enjoy it.
I always get a second wind when the sun sets. The other day we had a lavender colored sunset. It was gorgeous. Love your pretty sunset.
The sky is so beautiful sometimes. I would stare at clouds all day if I could! 🙂
“Seeing a sunrise reminds us that the day is brand new and we have another chance at life.” Beautiful, and such a wonderful reminder to us all to appreciate what we have and the beauty around us.
One of the things my Dad has handed down to me is his love of nature. There is something so peaceful and serene when we take a step back and take it all in. He even goes to the extreme to sit on the porch when it thunders. I am not that into it. I love just taking a moment and taking in the beauty. It really does make you grateful for another day.
You hit the nail on the head when you called it magical. Great post Phyllis and I love your photo too!
