Where did all of humanity go?

With the results of the recent Presidential Election, it seems as though humanity–what was once a characteristic of the United States–has vanished into thin air. You can blame this divide as a result of this political party or that political party, this generation or that generation, but the fact remains: we are all humans, regardless of our political views or era that we were born into. To quote Dr. Phil, “do you want to be a part of the problem, or do you want to be a part of the solution”? That choice is yours and yours alone, and you have no one to blame but yourself for your actions.

For example, I was watching the Oroville Dam in California and reading continuous words filled with hate for one political party or the other. Do you think your personal political views display any sense of empathy towards your fellow man? If you are watching a destructive situation and cannot see past your political views long enough to see the people who could potentially be displaced, then you are a part of the problem. If you want to sit behind your computer screen and throw divisive words around instead of words of empathy, then you are also a part of the problem.

How can you become part of the solution to improve humanity during a time that we truly need it?

    • Be considerate of other people and their situations
    • Don’t be so quick to judge
    • Be open to understanding other points of views that may not align with yours
    • Research a topic before you actually speak on it
    • Instead of passing the blame onto others, try being more helpful towards others

Next time a seemingly political or controversial situation emerges, take a second to withdraw yourself and look at the situation objectively. Before you respond, ask yourself; “is what I’m about to say helpful to the people involved”?
