Connecting With Your Kids Through Netflix #Streamteam #SP

How are you connecting with your kids?

    Connecting kids using Netflix #StreamTeam

Connecting with your kids, how do you do it?  Netflix is all the rage with kids and teens {and yes, even us parents}, so why not connect with your kids though Netflix?  I do it all the time and while we could be doing other things together, watching “our shows” is a way for us to bond and spend time together and we all love that.  So when I think back to my younger years, what are some of the shows I would watch?  Are they shows that I can watch with my own kids?  If they are, then I do it.  I remember, yes I am dating myself, but back in my day, the big movies to watch were Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles and on… so I introduced them to my teenaged girl and we watch them together.  From that point on, we regularly scope out Netflix to see what shows or movies we can watch together because it is a way for us to bond.  It was a way for me to get my teenaged daughter out of her room and into other rooms in the house and it worked because look, we’ve watched so many shows together over the last year or so.  We have already watched Gilmore Girls and we always look for throwback shows because they are fun to watch…like Friends, Ghost Whisperer and Medium, Clueless and Spy Kids {I could go on}!

With my younger daughter we watch Power Rangers, The Bad News Bears, OMG and the Smurfs!  I used to have this little blue smurf figure it was only a couple inches tall and I think I still have it, I’ll have to see if I can find it!  I used to love watching Scooby Doo and you know there are some others that just never seem to get old no matter what.  But, sharing those fun moments with my kids are priceless and Netflix gives us that opportunity to relive our past {good or bad} that also allows our children to have a glimpse into our past and in most cases, laugh at what we used to watch, wear or say, which then makes you feel old…it’s a vicious circle, lol.

Each time we sit down to watch Netflix it’s creating a special moment for my and my kids.  They may not realize it or even understand it, but for me, I enjoy spending as much time with them as I can, even if it is just “watching tv” together.  It opens up the lines of communication and brings us together in a more direct yet indirect way.  It seems that I can bring important issues up during those times when we are just relaxed and not focused on the right or wrong answer, or feeling the need to be or get defensive.  So yes, watching Netflix with my kids has brought us together and I am proud of that! 🙂

What is your throwback show to watch?  Have you watched it with your kids?  Do you feel that watching Netflix or tv in general has brought you and your family together?
