Holiday baking! Where should I start? During the holiday season, I am almost always found in the kitchen baking batch after batch of holiday cookies. I absolutely love it! I’m in my zone, my element, all of my glory! Baking is kinda my thing. I am the annual cookie and cake baker during the holidays. My cousin was a Christmas baby and every year for probably the last ten plus I’ve been baking his birthday holiday cake. While I love and enjoy baking, I especially love and enjoy eating holiday dinner as well.
Dinner Time
Do you have a traditional food that you eat for the holidays? Our go-to Christmas dinner consists of ham, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, broccoli rice, bread, and butter. I think there are sweet potatoes too but I don’t eat that so I rarely pay attention to those. It’s usually a buffet style dinner and very low key. I love our Christmas dinners.
After Dinner Fun
Once dinner has ended we will sit and chit chat for a little bit and then the kids want to start playing games. Our normal go-to game is “pass the present”. All participating players bring 3 small gifts per person. They range in price from $1.00 to $5.00. They are all wrapped in different size boxes and with different wrapping. The kids always grab the biggest box which is usually like a roll of toilet paper or a shower cap. We have fun with it. The kids have a blast and it kills some time before they start begging to open gifts. This year we might try a holiday game of Pictionary.
Dessert Time
Our treats include things like my Grandmas three chocolate chip topped cookies, crescent cookies, pizzales, pecan balls, Italian knot cookies, sugar drop cookies and a birthday cake. I have no idea what kind of cake I’ll be making this year or how I’ll be decorating it so I’ll hit up Pinterest soon for ideas. I like to switch things up each year. One year I made an ugly sweater cake, snowman, winter wonderland, etc.
