Now that the kids are back in school full-force, that means, it’s pizza night Friday night. We are usually lazier in the summer to keep it up, but for the most part, my kids know that Friday nights equal pizza night. I usually make my own pizza’s but when I am in a time crunch, I’ll make pizza bread, have a few frozen pizza’s on hand or I’ll splurge for a home delivered pizza. Lately with finances being so tight, we’ve been either getting inexpensive frozen pizza’s or I’ll make them myself. Either way, Friday nights the kids are still tired from the long week and school day that we will just kick back and relax. We will gather around the table, eat pizza and share stuff from our day. Then we will move our conversations to the couch. We all have our own “spots” on the couches and chair, and they are unspoken spots, we just seem to “go there” naturally. We grab our favorite blankets, pillows and make sure we have our pj’s on too! After everyone has settled in to their respective spots, we will either pop in a movie or turn on Netflix and see what’s on. We love watching Netflix because there are so many movies that we can watch as a family.
I like to “torture” them with movies from my past like The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which my oldest enjoys but the two younger ones aren’t at that level yet.
We do like our fair share of animated movies too like The Smurfs 2, Free Birds or Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. However when the mood strikes, we will also watch {one of my favorites} Marvels, The Avengers {a guy in a super hero costume always makes me giddy}.
Then we might like to laugh at the goofiness that Jennifer Garner adds to the movie, 13 going on 30! No matter what we usually will find something that we can all agree upon, which you’d think would be hard with 5 people who are different ages and who have way different tastes in other areas. It’s also always the best time spent because we are all together, unwinding as a family and just enjoying each others company.
Oh, I forgot the popcorn! Our movie nights ALWAYS include popcorn! That involves at least 3 bags of microwave popcorn, or 8 servings using our hot air popcorn popper. When my son makes it he has to add extra butter {ick} and when my husband makes it, he adds extra salt…double ICK!!! I will also make sure I have everyone’s favorite boxed candy {from Walmart or Walgreens} and they get a treat of drinking their favorite soda too! It’s a really big event in our household and one I will miss as they get older. I just hope that they take some of these fun traditions of ours and implement them in their households like I am in mine! I remember as a child & teen that every Friday was pizza night. In my house, I just added the movie night because it is one of the things we all enjoy and well, why not?
